Island Roads is a civil engineering company based in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
Since 2013 we have been improving and maintaining the highway network in a PFI contract that represents the largest engineering project ever undertaken on the Island.
This has involved the resurfacing of hundreds of miles of the highway network and the upgrading of the Island's 12,000 streetlights to energy efficient LED models. Street furniture and other powered apps including 80 crossing sites have also been renewed and in many cases upgraded through the contract. We also provide winter maintenance and emergency response services.
We are also responsible for the 100s of structures - bridges, viaducts and culverts, that retain and support the network.
We do all this in harmony with the Island's special environment - over half the county is designated Are of Outstanding Natural Beauty there are 41 Sites of Special Scientific Interest and 395 Local Wildlife Sites (Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation) on the Island.
Our work also involves accommodating unique geotechnical challenges with the Island, particularly its southern tip, famous for its uniquely unstable geology.
