The Research Institute in Sustainability Science and Technology, as part of the Universistat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC) •BarcelonaTech, is the unit in charge of promoting, coordinating and carrying out academic activities in the fields of sustainability science and sustainable technologies.
To face the challenges of sustainable human development, it is necessary to consolidate an interdisciplinary academic space within the UPC community so that scientific progress and technological innovation can flourish. With this vision, the ISST's research approach is distinguished by integrating economic, environmental and social aspects into the fields of technology, architecture and engineering, as well as reference points for closing cycles and systemic thinking. Academic excellence, international and local strategic networks and a transdisciplinary approach to knowledge creation and dissemination are other key features of the Institute.
Consequently, the Institute's mission is to generate technical and conceptual tools to create a more sustainable productive and development model and collaborate in the UPC's effort to provide scientific and technical support for human, social, cultural and economic progress.
