About ITDP India
The Institute for Transportation and Development Policy (ITDP) (www.itdp.org) is a global non-profit that works with cities worldwide to bring about inclusive sustainable transport solutions that reduce pollution, alleviate poverty and enhance the quality of urban life. ITDP was established in 1985 and started operations in India in 1998. Its network has offices in India, China, Indonesia, Mexico, Brazil, and the United States, where it is headquartered. The ITDP network, with over 100 staff, has some of the world’s leading experts in sustainable urban transportation and has extensive experience confronting problems of congestion, pollution, and social exclusion in numerous cities worldwide through policy reform and project implementation. Our work is rooted in a multi-pronged strategy of Inspire, Create, Embed, and Expand. Our team engages extensively with various stakeholders to create awareness about sustainable and equitable cities, and provides in-depth technical support to public agencies in planning, design and implementation of sustainable transport initiatives and transit-oriented development. We have influenced large investments into sustainable transport initiatives worldwide through our partners with our engagement in various international fora. The ITDP India programme is hosted by Urban Works Institute, a not-for-profit organisation registered under the Charitable Trusts Act in India. Urban Works Institute is ITDP’s network partner in India.
