Our Story
The exhibition features the captivating works of Finnish artist Minna Pietarinen, who brings to life the stories of inspiring women from diverse cultures who have shattered glass ceilings and overcome significant barriers. These stories are told through evocative art and heartfelt poetry, creating a profound source of peer-support for communities around the world. Curated by Peppi Stünkel, our mission is to evoke meaningful dialogues on gender equality and human rights through the transformative power of art and poetry.
Global Impact
Since its inception, "I Was Born a Girl" has traveled to various international destinations, starting with a remarkable debut in Mexico City for Women's Day 2023, where it attracted 26,000 visitors. The journey continued to South Africa, where it was inaugurated by Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Dr. Naledi Pandor and Former First Lady Mrs. Zanele Mbeki in Pretoria. The exhibition has also been showcased in Maputo and Lusaka, in collaboration with the Finnish embassies.
Upcoming Events
We are thrilled to announce that the next chapter of our journey will take place in September at the Palais des Nations in Geneva during the 57th session of the UN Human Rights Council. This prestigious event offers an unparalleled platform to highlight our mission and reach a global audience. Following this, the exhibition will travel to Santiago de Chile for International Women's Day 2025, featuring a special painting of Michelle Bachelet. Our plans include stops in Argentina, Colombia, Brazil, Peru, and Iceland, culminating in a significant showcase at the UN Headquarters in New York in 2026.
