International Young Democrat Union

The International Young Democrat Union (IYDU) is the official youth organization of the International Democracy Union (IDU). IYDU is an alliance of conservative, classical liberal, Christian Democrat and center-right youth political organizations. Established in 1991, the IYDU has over 100 full and observer members from over 80 countries and is the youth wing of the International Democracy Union (IDU). The IYDU is a global alliance of center-right political youth organiztions united by a common desire for greater freedom and less government. The parent organization to IYDU, the International Democracy Union (IDU), is a working association of over 80 center-right parties. Formed in 1983, founder members included Britain's Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher; then US Vice-President George Bush Sr.; Mayor of Paris, and later French President, Jacques Chirac; and the German Chancellor Helmut Kohl. The IYDU holds key events throughout the year, where participants from member organizations can meet to exchange ideas, learn about different political systems, network, and help fight for freedom and democracy.
