About J-22: Uncommon Future Press

High fashion, meet higher education. We're a design-led social impact venture emerging as an edgy competitor to traditional academic press. We publish knowledge in bold creative formats, from graphic novels, to role-playing games, to Disney-Pixar style narrative animations. (Think A24 meets Disney-Pixar, but intellectual.) We're here to (1) liberate technical knowledge from the clutches of jargon and artificial containers, (2) make knowledge affordable and accessible, (3) construct alternative canons, and (4) create a new job market for intellectual and artistic talent. Our authors and collaborators span the world, from the Global North to the Global South and other spaces that exceed these categories. We're here to solve problems that Traditional Academia struggle to solve, and do it in killer style. Our goal is to re-circulate knowledge and wisdom, back to where they belong: the community. Once our #UncommonFutureMission succeeds, knowledge won't look or feel the same way again. Our genres are multifarious, and our creative mediums unlimited. We believe knowledge is embodied, aesthetic, and multi-sensory. So we include fiction, dance, and music (among others) to be unique forms of knowing in and of themselves. We're intensely inclusive in an avant-garde way, so we invite artists & designers to reach out and collaborate. Brought to you by our lean mean idea machine of a founder, Catheirne D.L. Tan. Catherine is an award-winning intellectual, author, and politico with a unique professional history in economic and climate diplomacy. She's the University of Cambridge's resident-specialist of Weird Fringe Things, and has had a reputation for bringing vibrancy and innovation wherever she goes. During her teens, she won the national equivalent of the Pulitzer Prize in her country, and endeavours to bring the same literary lyricism to this venture. Follow along, tell all your friends about! Let’s usher in the future of knowledge. IG: @UncommonFuturePower
