Jade & Thistle was established in to develop commercial and investment opportunities arising from its founders’ experience and relationships in Greater China. The Jade & Thistle name is a deliberate inversion of the expression “the Thistle and the Jade”, commonly associated with Jardine Matheson, the 175 year-old trading house. Just as the history of Jardine is central to the story of modern China’s economic relations with the West, and reflects the historical primacy of Western capital and management expertise, the Jade & Thistle name reflects the newfound primacy of China in this relationship.
