Janghi

Janghi is a non-profit organization that sustains education of children excluded from the school in Senegal. We are committed to creating a sustainable model of alternative education while creating awareness, cultural exchange and volunteering opportunities within the key countries involved (Italy, Senegal and more). In addition to the lack of resources for many families in Senegal, cultural and bureaucratic aspects are frequently deprioritizing formal education – opportunity cost for not working / begging, lack of school supplies, presence of many young brides forced to leave school, non-availabilities of programs for people with disabilities and a large portion of families preferring religious institutions that offer full-time placements for free (frequently in terrible living conditions) – leading to inexistent, uncomplete or biased education that prevents the development of the child's potential. Our mission is to create a sustainable model of alternative education, valorizing the local culture, raising awareness on human values and fostering alternative solutions when human rights are at stake. We have designed an extended program where, in addition to the quality of content and personal capabilities we want them to be healthy, correctly nurtured, have time to play and dream about their future, give them the opportunity to participate to activities for their communities while feeling safe and fulfilled. We operate in Italy, Senegal, France, Spain, Lebanon, USA and the UK. While non-local activities are related to fundraising and awareness, operations are driven locally by the association supported by national & international volunteers in different fields – teachers & artists, doctors & sport players, psychologists, students and more. Our model has been highlighted as one of the most powerful in that context and we are actively collaborating with orgs to extend it to more and more children “awakening the builder of nations who sleeps in each child”.
