Jeev Aashraya started with a small group of friends and animal lovers who were compassionate to the animals struggling on the streets of Lucknow. After several years in helping animals at their own individual levels and distressed by the lack of facilities for rescue and help for stray animals, they decided to work in an organized manner which gave birth to Jeev Aashraya in November 2012.
Originally founded by Mr. Yatendra Trivedi, Mr. Amit Sehgal, Dr. Manish Tewari, Ms. Harshita Deo, and Mr. Chayan Trivedi the family of Jeev Aashraya has been increasing since then. Today, more than a lakh of people are joined to the organization through either social media, volunteering or other activities of the NGO.
The aim of Jeev Aashraya is-
• Provide prompt assistance in handling animal-related emergencies.
• Reduce animal deaths caused by ill-treatment and road accidents
• Develop and establish animal shelters for stray animals.
• Provide free-of-charge veterinary services across the political boundaries of the country.
• Sensitise people about pet adoptions and discourage them from purchasing a 'life.'
• Spread awareness through various schools and colleges and educate the younger generation about animal welfare and the importance of ecological balance.
• Make people aware of animal exploitation by multiple brands.
• Educate people about their responsibility towards the environment and aware of the various legal provisions protecting the country's flora and fauna.
• Encourage citizens to abide by the fundamental duty of "to protect and improve natural environment….the forests and wildlife", laid down in Part IV-A of the Constitution.
