JEMSTAR (NorthSTAR, CentralSTAR, & SouthSTAR) is a non-profit helicopter medevac service that operates at no cost to the patient. The JEMSTAR program is a joint venture between University Hospital New Jersey & the New Jersey State Police Aviation bureau.
Since July of 1988, the JEMSTAR program has provided rapid transport of the critically ill and injured patient to trauma centers throughout New Jersey within the “golden hour”. The JEMSTAR program is supported through grant funding from a $3 surcharge on motor-vehicle registrations. That funding subsidizes the operation of the North, Central, and South helicopters, in conjunction with the NJ State Police, allowing us to transport patients for free both on-scene or inter-facility. Along with being able to provide care to our patients at no cost, the JEMSTAR program is the only medevac system in NJ that operates state of the art aircraft with two pilots, and the capability of transporting two patients. While our primary mission is medevac operations, we also assist with Homeland Security, aviation law enforcement, and aerial hoist operations, along with search and rescue missions. JEMSTAR have successfully transported over 14,000 patients to trauma centers and other specialty care centers throughout the greater New Jersey area. These emergency transports have resulted in positive outcomes for victims of trauma.
