John James Foundation

The John James Memorial Foundation is an independent medical charity based in Canberra, with a membership of 140 doctors who are specialists in their chosen field of medicine. Through the Foundation’s Board, there has been hard work over a number of years to establish a base of charitable and support programs, both in the ACT and further afield. With the continuing support of its members, the Foundation is able to provide services distinct from other medical and health related charities. The Foundation’s flagship program is the Specialist Volunteer Program. Each year a number of medical teams, consisting of specialist doctors and support staff, volunteer their services to travel to remote areas of Australia. These teams provide real benefits through the supplementary medical services provided in areas that generally do not see this level of support. The Katherine District Hospital in the Northern Territory, and the remote communities that it services, have been the centre of much of this volunteer work. The Foundation is recognised by the Australian Taxation Office as a deductible gift recipient and a tax-free not-for-profit charity. The Foundation has a small team of dedicated staff at its offices in the Peter Yorke Building on the John James Healthcare Campus in Strickland Crescent, Deakin, in the Australian Capital Territory.
