About John Samonas & Sons Ltd
John Samonas & Sons Ltd act as London Agents for Golden Flame Shipping of Greece. The Company provides holistic and integrated maritime transportation services on behalf of its principals in the fields of commercial, operational and technical management for a fleet of dry bulk carriers operating globally in the business of the transportation of dry commodities including iron ore, coal and agricultural products. The Company has enjoyed cooperation with leading marine suppliers and service providers in the fields of chartering, technical, purchasing, insurance and finance and continues to work closely with regulatory bodies such as flag state and classification societies as well as other maritime NGOs to build on relationships forged during half a century in the maritime industry. The Company recognizes the need to focus on the health and safety of its employees and the public at large, while placing emphasis on environmental and property protection by remaining sensitive and responsive to public concerns, whilst endeavouring to maintain high efficiency and provide quality waterborne transportation services to its clients. Since the company's inception, about 20 vessels have been managed ranging in size from about 10,000 MT general cargo ships to 210,000 MT Bulk Carrriers. In the early days, the company was involved in the pre-purchase inspection and management of second hand vessels but since the 70s the company has been involved from the stage of contracting newbuild ships at major shipyards until their eventual sale or demolishion. Many of the ships were under management for well over 20 years. The Company presently operates two Capesize and three Newcastlemax bulk carriers. The Capesize vessels are under medium-term charter to blue-chip international companies and the ‘Newcastlemax’ bulk carriers have been committed on long-term charters to a major European client. A further 'Newcastlemax' bulk carrier is under construction at NACKS in China. The total deadweight of the company's managed vessels on the water and on order is about 1.2 million tonnes with an average age of 4 years.
