Joseph D. Hernandez Foundation

The Joseph D. Hernandez Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based out of Hillsborough, NJ. The mission of the foundation is to raise funds in order to purchase and distribute new and used sports equipment for children who wish to play organized sports but lack the financial resources to do so. The foundation was created in honor of longtime Hillsborough resident Joseph David Hernandez, who died in his sleep on July 20, 2016, at the age of 23. As a martial arts and aquatic instructor, lifeguard, blood donor, and retirement home volunteer, Joseph made a tremendous impact on the lives of so many individuals in his community. Even in death Joseph continues to change lives, serving as an organ donor whose tissues were used to save the sight of a man in Michigan. The foundation is dedicated to following in the inspirational footsteps of Joseph, who was motivated to help those in need each and every day.
