History: On March 6, 1923, a group of women interested in welfare work formed an organization they called the Charity League. The purpose of this organization was to cooperate with and help the social welfare workers of the county. The Charity League was formed at the request of these social welfare workers. The Charity League became the Social Service League in 1935. On September 30, 1952, we became the Junior League of Wilmington, N.C., Inc. Since 1923, members of the Junior League of Wilmington have donated countless volunteer hours and contributed over $1 million to many projects and served innumerable agencies and organizations.
