Department of Physical Education, Jadavpur University

Department of Physical Education is a constituent unit of Jadavpur University. It is the one of the academic departments under the faculty of Arts. This Department was previously a unit of Jadavpur Vidyapith College of Education, run by NCE, Bengal, which started offering B.P.Ed program from the year 1975 at the request of the Director of Public Instruction, West-Bengal when Physical Education was made a compulsory examination subject. Thereafter in 1990, Jadavpur University has taken over the Physical Education Unit of Jadavpur Vidyapith College of Education and has made a full-fledged department of Physical Education under the Faculty of Arts. The teacher education programme is controlled by the National Council of Teachers Education (NCTE) as the parent body. All the teachers education programmes should be recognised by the Parent Body (NCTE) like other teachers education programmes in India. Jadavpur University is presently recognised with its two courses of two years duration B.P.Ed. and M.P.Ed. And these two courses have already been recognised by NCTE, with an annual intake of 50 and 40 respectively.
