About Just Earth Papers

Just Earth Papers has developed the solution to New Zealand’s coffee cup waste problem - a problem that sees 295 million PLA-lined coffee cups and lids go to landfill each year. Like many other countries, the New Zealand Government banned single use plastics in July 2023. It’s only a matter of time before the ban on plastic drink lids and PLA-plastic lined cups is enforced. Attempts to switch to so-called “commercially compostable” solutions are impractical and have justifiably been met with claims of greenwashing. After three years of development, Just Earth Papers has cracked the code on a paper cup - and lid - with aqueous barrier solution that performs as well as PLE-lined cups for the same price. PLA and PE free Home compostable New Zealand made (lower carbon footprint) Our factory in Christchurch is up and running. We can print large or small runs of cups with our planet-friendly inks. Just Earth Papers was founded by Rob Meates and Stewart Andrews in response to their children claiming ‘boomers have ruined the planet and weren’t doing anything to fix it’. Over lockdown, they decided to work on a solution to what they saw as a massive, every-day problem: 295 million coffee cups ending up in New Zealand’s landfills every year.
