AWS EC2 Instances have become a fundamental component of application deployment for many developers. Monitoring these instances to ensure that hosted applications run properly is a critical component of maintaining application performance. There is a huge variety of metrics that may be derived from the monitoring of an EC2 instance. This offers great variety in the information that developers may leverage to make informed decisions on instance management. Yet, not all metrics are equally valuable to a developer. Viewing all metric data holistically without context on the metrics that matter could lead to developers analysing large amounts of data that does not add value to the ultimate goal of remediating virtual machine issues and making informed decisions. Instead, developers must prioritize a subset of metrics to streamline the instrumentation process. JustMetrics was developed to be a metrics dashboard with a focus on these critical instrumentation metrics (CIMs) for AWS EC2 instances. It provides critical insights into EC2 instances and key metrics derived from industry research, enabling developers to focus on commonly accepted critical instrumentation metrics to streamline instance monitoring and decision-making.
