Kafka Sonar

In May 2022 Docker's Extensions Marketplace launched, enabling pioneering developers to custom augment the Docker ecosystem. Over a year in, the Marketplace remains nascent, with diminishing but notable gaps in diverse tooling for enterprise developers utilizing Docker in their workflows. Consider the message broker space. While there were Extensions catering to popular open source brokers like RabbitMQ, no equivalent existed for the widely industry-adopted Apache Kafka. Compelled to fill this gap, our team created Kafka Sonar, a first-of-its-kind Docker Desktop Extension aimed at enhancing the Kafka developer experience. For developers monitoring or testing their Kafka clusters, Sonar offers an at-a-glance overview of cluster health via visualizations of 20 essential metrics, and archives the metrics for postmortem retrieval and analysis. This product was developed under tech accelerator OSLabs.
