KALA VARSO

Kala Varso, a non-profit organization, aims to preserve and promote the rich tradition of folk music and culture in the Kachchh region. Facing challenges from industrialization and globalization Kala Varso for more than 11 years has been intensively working in the direction of revival of Kutch Folk Music. Key initiatives include organizing Reyans (gatherings), establishing Riyaz Shala (Folk Music Schools), documenting and archiving folk music, and engaging in social marketing to promote Kachchh's folklore globally. It is a community of artists and virtuosos, coming together for the cause of sustaining traditional and cultural art values of this region run by the artists themselves with the aim of sustaining traditional and cultural art values of this region. Till date Kala Varso worked with more than 495 Folk Musicians, and conducted 106 Reyans in various villages of Kutch, participated in 275 Musical events and conducted 14 Music concerts of it’s own. Kala Varso documented folk music of Kutch in audio, video and written form. The documentation consists of 360 songs of 18 different music genres and total 286 folk music artists from 14 different communities participated.
