The Kalisher Trust transforms the lives of young people, as we work towards achieving a more socially mobile and diverse criminal bar. We believe talent comes in many forms and from all backgrounds, and that a diverse criminal bar will better reflect the society it serves. We aim to help, encourage and inspire young people of ability, commitment and ambition to achieve their potential through the development of advocacy skills and participation in other programmes and thus develop a career at the criminal bar.
The trust has four main aims:
To help broaden the ethnic and social representation of the criminal bar by supporting those who, despite their potential, have faced multiple challenges as they strive to achieve their career ambitions.
To provide training, financial support, mentoring and assistance to encourage and inspire young people from diverse backgrounds to achieve their potential through the development of advocacy skills.
To encourage and support young people who would not otherwise be able to afford to pursue a career at the criminal bar.
To encourage and support recently qualified barristers to help them develop sustainable and successful careers at the criminal bar.
We are proud to have worked for greater social mobility and diversity at the criminal bar since 1996 and continue to do so.
