About Kalyspo

Kalyspo's unified system cost-effectively eliminates the vast majority of retained foreign objects (RFOs). Kalyspo utilizes patent-pending technology developed at the University of Michigan Radiology and Mechanical Engineering departments. Kalyspo combines Microelectromechanical Systems (MEMS) and Computer Aided Detection (CAD) to detect RFOs. A MEMS tag, the uTag is attached onto surgical objects and detected on radiographs with the Kalyspo CAD. The Kalyspo CAD also detects other objects, such as needles, that are too small to tag, but visible on x-rays. The three key advantages of the Kalyspo unified system is cost, validation and detection of RFOs that no other technology can account for. Kalyspo does not use proprietary read-out devices that drive the cost of competing technology. Portable x-ray machines are ubiquitous in hospitals and the hospital can bill for their use. The effectiveness of the Kalyspo technology is validated on thousands of cadaver images. The uTag can be attached to all objects that barcode or RF tags are attached to. The Kalyspo CAD can detect needles and other x-ray visible objects, which comprise a third of RFOs and no other technology can account for. Through the use of innovative technology Kalyspo makes the operating room a safer place.
