Kannur University

Kannur University was established in 1996 to advance higher education in the Kasaragod, Kannur, and Wayanad districts of Kerala, India. It was founded through Act No. 22 of 1996 of the Kerala Legislative Assembly, following the earlier establishment of "Malabar University" through an ordinance on 9 November 1995. The university was officially inaugurated on 2 March 1996 by E.K. Nayanar, then Chief Minister of Kerala, with Dr. P.K. Rajan serving as the first Vice-Chancellor. Kannur University was created as a teaching, residential, and affiliating university to strengthen higher education and research in the region.
