ABOUT US Something that once started with an edgy anime t-shirt from enthusiastic teenagers, has now become a growing international brand and community. kaomoji is a lifestyle brand inspired by Japanese streetwear and anime culture. We began to make t-shirts for ourselves. After discovering that our friends liked the designs, it was decided to take it to the next level and build our own brand. This is how kaomoji was founded in 2015 when we released our very first designs at a small convention in the Netherlands. Since then, kaomoji has become a lifestyle brand that has collaborated with Hatsune Miku, Doki Doki Literature Club, Kizuna AI and more. One of the reasons that kaomoji is growing internationally is because we attend many Asian pop culture and comic conventions throughout the year. Not only do we attend conventions in The Netherlands, but we also travel to Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Belgium. Once a year, we visit Japan for inspiration and meetings. In addition, kaomoji has different retailers located all over Europe, which also creates local communities. What are kaomoji? kaomoji is a text-based Japanese emoticon.‘’kao’’ literally stands for face (顔) and ‘’moji’’ for letters (文字), together it stands for face letters (顔文字). From the start, there was a goal in our mind: how can we design clothes to express ourselves without being afraid to show who we are? How can a feeling of belonging be created by fashion?
