Muslim Women Lawyers for Human Rights KARAMAH EU is an independent self-funded organization that relies on a network of volunteers and a strong leading team. Founded in 2013, KARAMAH EU builds upon the expertise of our privileged partner KARAMAH, the renowned U.S.-based NGO founded in 1993 by Prof. Dr. Azizah al-Hibri, who was appointed by President Obama to serve as a commissioner on the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom. We believe that a rich education is the steadiest path to eradicating ignorance and prejudice, which are major factors in denying people their dignity and liberty. Our primary mission is to educate both Muslims and non-Muslims about the just, gender-equitable foundation of Islam. We commit to promoting human rights globally, especially gender equity, religious freedom, and civil rights in Europe. Based in Antwerp and Brussels, we pursue our mission through education, legal outreach advocacy by challenging and inspiring Muslim women to become leaders in their communities and throughout the world.
