Karunalaya

Karunalaya is a non profit voluntary organisation working for the protection, rescue and rehabilitation of street & working children in Chennai City Karunalaya was founded for the care, protection and rehabilitation of runaway, destitute street children, children working in the fishing industry, street youth and empowerment of women in the fishing community, street and pavement dwelling communities within Chennai. The organisation also focuses attention towards the protection of the girl children in the community. It has branched into many areas of work, yet, its central programme continues to be the rescue, counselling, shelter home care, food, clothing, health care, formal and non formal education, vocational training in tailoring and family reintegration. Empowerment of the marginalised communities towards sustainable development through Human Rights approach is the guiding philosophy after tsunami devastation.
