At KASKOM, a social enterprise, we are promoting the cultivation of the 5000 year old, organic, indigenous (desi) Cotton of India. Through our initiative we have been able to revive the traditional rural value chains & provide sustainable income sources to marginal farmers, spinners, weavers and artisans.
We work in close partnership with the farmers and the rural communtiy and have worked on Decentralised Cotton Processing where the farmer can produce lint or roving in the village itself, generating rural livelihoods. The roving takes place at Gandhigram Dindigul and the weaving centre is in Kannur, Kerala.
We are inspired by the simplicity of our traditional agricultural wisdom and the issues of climate change and excessive use of fertilizers and pesticides make it more imperative than ever to adopt these.
