Kathegaararu are a dedicated Yakshagana performing ensemble founded by Prasad Cherkady, an award-winning actor and Yakshagana artist, with a mission to preserve, promote, and pass on the rich heritage of Yakshagana – Karnataka’s traditional theatre form that blends music, dance, storytelling, and vibrant performance.
At Kathegaararu, we believe in keeping tradition alive by adapting it to contemporary formats without compromising its essence. With a deep foundation in performance arts, our work brings together the power of heritage, pedagogy, and creativity to connect with diverse audiences.
What We Do:
PERFORMANCES:
We curate and present Yakshagana shows across India and abroad — from traditional prasangas to creatively adapted productions that appeal to a wider audience. Our team performs at festivals, corporate events, schools, and cultural forums.
CLASSES (ONLINE & OFFLINE):
We offer structured Yakshagana training for learners of all ages.
• Online Classes: For national and international learners who want to train in Yakshagana dance, music, or performance.
• Offline Classes: Regular sessions in Karnataka for in-depth hands-on learning.
• 2-year syllabus designed for progression, including exams and review sessions.
WORKSHOPS:
We conduct Yakshagana-based workshops for schools, theatre enthusiasts, performing artists, and institutions — covering dance, acting, storytelling, and traditional singing.
About the Founder – Prasad Cherkady
Prasad is the recipient of the Mahindra Excellence in Theatre Award (META) for Best Actor (2016) and has performed in prestigious theatre festivals across India, London, and Singapore. With over 2000 Yakshagana performances and a background in both cinema and classical theatre, he brings unmatched experience and dedication to every project at Kathegaararu.
