How it all started...
Pottery is a mesmerizing and complex art form. If you speak to any two ceramic artists you will likely get two completely different stories of their journey.
I discovered ceramics while a teenager at a camp in Boulder, Colorado while a student at a self-sufficient/sustainable farm. At the camp we were introduced to ceramics as part of a program which promoted creativity. I have always loved working with my hands creating something from natural materials.
I have returned to the art with a fervor. Building heirlooms for others to delight in has become a full-time passion and joy. My vessels are functional and can seldom be replicated as I like to allow the clay to speak to me when creating.
You will find characteristic imperfections, and a range of shapes and sizes in all my work as the nature of the medium and the possibilities which explode when working with earth, fire, and water simply emerge organically.
Nature is my greatest inspiration and I often transfer that inspiration to my pieces. It can come from the wind, a rainy day, a sunset, earthen textures or a floral landscapes.

The process
In much of my work I am focused on not only the form and surface but the glazes as well. I hope to impart a small surprise in each piece whether is it a glaze drip, finger mark or line. When creating pottery you want to embrace the "perfectly imperfect" outcome.
In my work you will see, carving, impressions , painting and slip decoration. I love the diversity that this medium provides. I tend to use a limited palette of blues, greens, pinks and greys. My inspiration is ice, the ocean, flowing sunsets, fields of summer flowers - all things flowing and gentle in nature. Every piece includes a unique presentation of the handmade process. No two pieces are ever alike.
