The team at Katie Hillier Studio have long been the cheerleaders of creative thought and inspired design. For nearly twenty years, this busy studio has worked creatively to produce desirable items, amongst them; bags, jewellery, accessories and more recently ready to wear, that merge classic British style and high-end luxury. Referencing cultural moments in music and style, the studio team are known for working in a concise manner to create products that are luxurious and covetable. As a designer, Hillier herself has an innate knowledge of the lifecycle of a product; how it will be used by a stylist, how it will be marketed, how it will be consumed. During the creative boom time of the early 00s, Hillier began to explore creative collaborations, a key element which has been continued throughout her career. These partnerships have been formed alongside experts in a multitude of disciplines enhancing each project with a rich source of skills and creativity. Based in upstate New York, with a studio in London, Hillier and her multidisciplinary team work remotely, taking a creatively economic approach to design. Through perfecting prototypes while still in the studio, it ensures that the product is precise in its structure and design before it is sent to the factory. Although it may be an unusual way of working, it has meant that Hillier has been able to build a creative agency unique in its thinking. Having already adapted to working online, they are able to create products with an understanding of how the majority of consumers will view it, considered throughout the ideation process. Encouraging passionate and visceral reactions to ideas mean that simple and irreverent gestures become elevated, turning into iconic shapes and products. Common objects become modern and luxurious.
