Kayole Mtaa Safi

Kayole Mtaa Safi Initiative began in 2014 as a Community Based Organisation for the Kayole, Nairobi City County. Our main objectives revolve around youth and environmental concerns. Based in Kayole South Ward, we strive to find ways for youth to turn their talents into profitable endeavours - spiritually, physically and economically. We are greatly concerned about the increasing number of young people turning to mischievous activities, drugs, alcohol and crime. The downward spiral starts with lack of useful education and leads to lack of opportunities, lack of employment, lack of self-respect, lack of vision and finally to a recless or listless disregard for consequences. From this mire spring gangs like Mungiki, Gaza and B3, names that conjure images of fear, violence and lawlessness. We offer an alternative. Not all youth in Kayole are gang members Kayole is one of the fastest growing suburbs in one of Africa’s fastest growing cities and it already has one of the densest populations in Nairobi County. We see a huge potential in these youth to rise above their circumstances although opportunities are sometimes unseen due to bureaucracy, corruption and lack of appropriate information. Kayole Mtaa Safi addresses these issues in several ways: - Providing moral support/counselling - Providing ways to demonstrate to the community their (youth) worth and responsibility. - Providing avenues for skills development and empowerment. - Disseminating information and connecting people and opportunities. - Assisting them to legalise/register their businesses. Kayole Mtaa Safi Initiative is volunteer driven and has worked with individuals, companies and also the Nairobi City County in trying to shed light on this situation and look for opportunities for our youth to do better with their various skills and talents.
