Founded by Swami Kuvalayananda in 1924, it is the pioneering Yoga institute in the world that initiated scientific research in Yoga, based on traditional foundations and understanding.
Swami Kuvalayananda famously said “I have brought up this institute out of nothing. I do not mind if it goes to nothing, but Yoga should not be diluted.” Kaivalyadhama continues to stand true to this philosophy. It not only teaches traditional Yoga practices in its purest form, but also uses scientific methods to establish the relation between Yoga and modern scientific disciplines and to demonstrate the benefits of regularly practising yoga.
Its lush green and sprawling 170-acre campus in the Sahyadri ranges, in Lonavala, Maharashtra, India, is a sight to behold and provides the perfect healing touch to the mind, body and soul. The campus houses a healthcare centre (offering Ayurveda and naturopathy therapies as well), a college for Yoga, philosophical and scientific research departments, libraries, asana halls, a school for local children and an upcoming care centre for non-communicable diseases, amongst other things.
