Thousands of years ago in the South Western region of Ethiopia in a small village called Mankira Coffee was started to be a regular drink after it was found by the goats of Kaldi, a young goat herd. Through time it reached the hands of long-distance Merchants who introduced Coffee to the rest of Ethiopia and the Arabian Peninsula. Not only has Coffee started growing in most parts of Ethiopia but also beautiful traditions of Coffee making and drinking flourished in all households of Ethiopia. Since then Coffee became a daily drink and part and parcel of any communal ceremonies.
If you go to every household in Ethiopia the tradition is still the same as our ancestors roast and brew it. Only a slight difference in what accompanies it, a small snack (የቡና ቁርስ) to be eaten along with the Coffee.
