About Kids' Educational Engagement Project

Barack Obama once said, “Reading is important. If you know how to read, then the whole world opens up to you.” This is evident, as you may have experienced this along your personal or professional journey. For us at KEEP, we are determined to make global impact through a culture of reading. KEEP partners with schools and communities to provide supplementary literacy and technology learning experiences for public school students. Our reading rooms across counties provide a safe space for students to access books (including culturally affirming books), magazines and literacy coaches. Students also receive computer training and computer time to gain 21st century skills. For most of the students using our computers, their only experience with computers is through KEEP. Over time, our reading rooms have evolved into community resource hubs for students and their families. Recognizing this, KEEP expanded its core services to include a village saving club and advocacy center. The village savings club operates an annual shared savings and investment portfolio that increases the agency and fiscal independence of participants, most of whom are women. The advocacy hub serves as a safe space to increase awareness about social inequities and mentor a cadre of advocates. Since starting our reading sessions in 2016, we have conducted over 100 reading sessions across several schools in Liberia as well as trained over 100 teachers in reading strategies. As of June 2023, we have 32 reading centers across Liberia in 11 Counties, directing impacting over 20,000 students. We have also provided training to 103 urban and rural students in computer literacy training. We're are building a reading culture in Liberia one child at a time. We invite you to join us as we inspire and transform the next generation of leaders through reading. You can follow our journey on Facebook @keepliberia or visit our website for more information on our upcoming projects www.keeplib.org.
