About Kenosha County Sheriff's Office
Kenosha County, with a population of approximately 150,000, is tucked into the southeast corner of Wisconsin. Kenosha County is bordered on the east by Lake Michigan and is situated on the Illinois Stateline, centralized directly between Chicago, IL, and Milwaukee, WI making it a prime location for visitors and major events. The Kenosha County Sheriff’s Department (KSD) is a full-service law enforcement agency composed of 136 sworn members, from deputies up to the Sheriff, and 173 correctional professionals. In total, KSD employs over 375 people, including administrative and clerical assistants, and other support staff. Deputies patrol the county and respond to a variety of calls for service. Deputy Sheriffs are utilized for civil process, School Resource Officers, Deputy Friendly, and the conveyance of inmates. The KSD Detective Bureau investigates major crimes including burglaries, arson, and homicides. Specially trained detectives focus on sensitive crimes and drug investigations. The KSD provides many opportunities within the department such as the following specialty teams; Drone Operations, Tactical Response Team (TRT), Hostage Negotiations, Marine Unit, Bomb Squad, Bike Patrol, Crowd Control, the Sheriff's Mobile Command Unit, and Honor Guard. Practical training in accident investigations, evidence processing/collection, K-9 handler, and more are available. KSD full and part-time correctional officers (COs) are responsible for the operation of the Kenosha County Jail and Detention Center. Responsibilities include maintaining the custody, security, supervision, discipline, and welfare of those in custody. COs have opportunities for training in Crisis Intervention, being a field training officer, overseeing the electronic monitoring/Huber program, work crew, programs manager, video court specialist and discharge planner, or promotion. COs who would like to become sworn officers will be awarded preference points in the KSD Deputy Sheriff application process.
