What is KjG? KjG - catholic, young and democratic The Katholische Junge Gemeinde (KjG) is a democratic association of children and young people in the Catholic Church of Germany. It enables encounters, creates (free) spaces and offers orientation on the basis of faith and basic Christian values. Non-Catholics can also become members of the KjG. Nationwide, the children and young people of the KjG are mainly active locally, in the parish communities. On the different levels (parish, district / region, diocesan and federal association) interests are represented; interests of children and young people within the association and towards church and society. The important thing is: KjGler and KjGlerinnen decide themselves what they have to say. Nothing is put forward or imposed. Co-determination is very important. KjG is committed to equal opportunities for development for boys and girls, men and women. For children's rights and co-determination. For the environment. For justice and peace, here and in the world. And for an open and modern church that is colourful and vibrant, where girls and boys, men and women are taken seriously with their experiences and their faith. Our group leaders, who are all volunteers, receive pedagogical training. They take part in courses and further education, where they get suggestions and new ideas and can deepen their experiences and exchange them with others. The KjG wants to encourage children and young people to get involved, to take responsibility, to become active for things that concern them and that need to be changed. But the KjG also wants children to learn how to deal with each other in a spirit of partnership, to show consideration for each other and to act in a social and responsible manner. The KjG has 80,000 members nationwide and is one of the largest Catholic children's and youth associations in Germany. The KjG is affiliated with other Catholic associations in the Bund der Deutschen Katholischen Jugend (www.BDKJ.de)
