University of Antwerp presents KlimaatLINK – the link between climate science and education Climate change has a key impact on multiple aspects of society, from economics, healthcare, social interactions and law to ecology and agronomy. Solutions and adaptations to climate change thus need to come from many sectors. We need architects to develop cities adapted to the impacts of climate change, biologists to optimize natural ecosystems for climate mitigation and adaptation, and engineers to design technological solutions. We need sociologists and well-informed policymakers who are able to deal with the societal consequences of climate change in an appropriate manner. With KlimaatLINK, we want to bring the latest insights into climate change directly to schoolgoing youth - the citizens and employees of tomorrow. In this way we want to prepare them for a world in (climate) change. Due to the all-encompassing nature of climate change, it’s crucial to provide the citizens of tomorrow with state-of-the-art knowledge, to provide insight into the underlying drivers and processes and to provide an explanation of various future scenarios. This is key to develop the skills needed to think in a solution-oriented way and to work on climate adaptation on both an individual and collective level. KlimaatLINK is the link between climate science and education. We provide science-based yet tangible information to teachers, that is completely fit for the specific teaching goals defined by the government. We do this through blog posts and workshops, but our main target is to provide free teaching packages for primary and secondary education, the first of which were launched on October 25, 2022. The packages are adapted to all different education trajectories, targeting mainly secondary school.
