Knit the Rainbow (KtR) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in New York City. Our mission is to collect handmade knit and crochet winter garments from volunteers around the country and distribute them to houseless and at-risk LGBTQ+ youth. We form unique partnerships with community based organizations to not only provide the youth they serve with warm garments, but to also provide classes in various fiber arts skills. We offer 5 programs including Garment Collection and Distribution, Pattern Design, Community Outreach, Educating the Masses, and Knit the Future.
Our organization is currently run and operated by a Board of 5 members without any paid staff members.
