About Koala Conservation Australia

Koala Conservation Australia (Port Macquarie Koala Hospital and Wild Koala Breeding Program and Visitor Centre) has been helping rescue and rehabilitate koalas since 1973. We are a not-for-profit organisation that includes approximately 200 volunteers dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating koalas and conserving and restoring their natural habitats. In 2022, the Koala was officially listed as an endangered species. Unfortunately, this listing was completely preventable. Recent studies indicate the koala will become extinct in New South Wales before 2050 – unless rapid and effective action is taken. Our Koala population face several threats including loss of habitat, disease, and injury and attack. The world-first Wild Koala Breeding Program was launched in 2024, at Guulabaa - Place of Koala with the aim to arrest declining koala populations and ensure the survival of the species for generations to come.
