KTAOS

In 1986, Brad Hockmeyer started a small radio station along a dirt road in Taos KTAO 101.9FM- which is now the world’s most powerful solar radio station (licensed at 100,000 watts) and the most successful station in all of Taos County. In 1991, KTAOS made international news when it became the first radio station in the world to be powered by the sun. KTAOS moved into its current location in 2004, the multimedia complex called the KTAOS Solar Center. In addition to radio broadcast, KTAOS brings world-class live music to Taos on a regular basis, changing the entertainment scene in Taos forever. In 2006, Luna 103.7 FM joined the family and moved into the KTAOS Solar Center, a local favorite playing all the hits Taos loves. In 2010 Brad sold KTAOS to its current owners- 4 employees (two couples) that have morphed the vision to include a full bar and restaurant, capable of bringing live music and community events to Taos year-round.
