K. van Bourgondien has offered Dutch bulbs and perennials for more than 175 years. The family-owned company was started in Hillegom, Holland, in 1845 as a grower of tulips and other flower bulbs. By the 1880s, the family offered bulbs through commercial catalogs. Very early in the 20th century, the van Bourgondien family started a mail-order company in the United States that supplied greenhouses and cut-flower growers, making us one of the first bulb-by-mail suppliers. Over time, K. van Bourgondien became one of the world's leading wholesale distributors of Dutch bulbs and perennials. Bulbs could not be imported from Holland during World War II, so we temporarily grew ours in the U.S. until after the war, when bulb cultivation returned to the Netherlands. We still maintain a strong presence there with a full-time staff of buyers and experts there who regularly visit Dutch growers and hybridizers to inspect their products.
