About Kwangju Foreign School
Kwangju Foreign School (KFS) is a private foreign school for students from Pre-Kindergarten to Grade 12. KFS provides a comprehensive education for foreign students and Korean nationals from various countries and cultural backgrounds. Following a United States-based curriculum and taught completely in English, KFS is fully accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC). The school ensures a quality program for all students and provides a well-rounded education that prepares students for future study at overseas universities. Kwangju Foreign School initially opened its doors in September 1999 with an enrollment of 25 students. It was founded by Robert Holley, an international lawyer, educator, and television personality in South Korea. Mr. Holley sought to help meet the needs of foreign children in the area and to provide them with an affordable international education. Our first school was located in the Yangsan-dong region of Gwangju. In 2012, KFS moved to a newly constructed building in Oryong-dong with a modern campus neighboring the Gwangju Institute of Science and Technology (GIST). Kwangju Foreign School is a vibrant, diverse community of students and teachers from around the world. Our teachers are highly educated, qualified professionals with a wealth of experience from their native countries. Our diverse student body and faculty work together in an engaging, stimulating, and modern learning environment with an understanding and respect that enhances the learning experience. Kwangju Foreign School stands on the pillars of character and knowledge. We build well-rounded thinkers and problem solvers with a life-long love of learning. Supporting academic and personal needs, KFS strives for students to be effective communicators who can work individually and collaboratively. While strengthening Korean cultural ties and an understanding of their own identity, KFS strives to build success in an increasingly globalized society.
