Robert Konieczny KWK Promes

Robert Konieczny KWK PROMES is an international architecture office based in Katowice. It was founded in 1999 by Robert Konieczny, the laureate of Minister of Culture and National Heritage Lifetime Achievement Award, member of French Academy of Architecture. Robert Konieczny KWK Promes has won numerous competitions and prizes. The National Museum - Dialogue Centre Przełomy in Szczecin was announced to be The Best Public Space in Europe in the competition European Prize for Urban Public Space organized by CCCB. The same project was found World Building of the Year 2016 in the World Architecture Festival. Konieczny’s Ark was awarded Wallpaper Design Awards 2017 for Best New Private House. The office realizations were twelve times nominee of the European Award of Mies van der Rohe Foundation. Designs and realizations of the studio have been published many times in the books of architectural publishers, including Phaidon and Taschen. The studio's projects were also presented in magazines such as Architectural Review, Area, Mark Magazine, Detail, The Plan, Casabella, Wallpaper* or ICON, as well as on websites, for example ArchDaily, Architizer, Dezeen, Architonic and many more. In his book "European Architecture since 1890", Hans Ibelings included Robert Konieczny KWK PROMES among the European conceptualists as the only contemporary studio from Poland that contributed to the development of European architecture. In 2022, the studio's monograph Pathfinders, prepared in collaboration with Philip Jodidio, Images Publishing, is due to be published. Currently, the activities of KWK Promes are more and more directed towards solutions adapting architecture to inevitable climate change and to all the challenges related to that.
