KÁYÒMI means “add to my joy” which is an indication of the movement’s goal to make mother earth more joyful through sustainable fashion. This is an innovative fashion venture set to revolutionise the industry. Our mission is simple yet profound: to bridge the gap between consumer demand for sustainable fashion and the availability of convenient and affordable repair and reuse services. In a world where the fashion industry generates a staggering 92 million tons of waste annually, KÁYÒMI stands as a beacon of change, promoting slow fashion and environmental responsibility. We plan to address the dire environmental concerns stemming from the fashion industry. The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions and 20% of global water waste. Consumer awareness regarding the environmental impact of fast fashion is on the rise. A recent survey carried out in the UK showed that 51% of respondents said they had thrown away clothing in the past year that could have been repaired. Among 18-24 year-olds, the figure was even higher at 63%. According to a 2021 report by the Global Fashion Agenda and McKinsey & Company, repair and reuse of clothing could reduce the fashion industry's carbon emissions by up to 10% by 2030. Also, 77% of UK adults think that clothing retailers should do more to promote sustainable fashion, such as offering repair and alteration services. Our approach encompasses a multifaceted solution, including a peer-to-peer application connecting end-users to skilled tailors, reprocessing fabrics and recycling, automatic sewing kits, e-learning tailoring, and more.
