In a world where the fashion industry generates a staggering 92 million tons of waste annually, KÁYÒMI stands as a beacon of change, promoting slow fashion and environmental responsibility. We plan to address the dire environmental concerns stemming from the fashion industry.
The fashion industry is responsible for 10% of global carbon emissions and 20% of global water waste. Consumer awareness regarding the environmental impact of fast fashion is on the rise. A recent survey carried out in the UK showed that 51% of respondents said they had thrown away clothing in the past year that could have been repaired. Among 18-24 year-olds, the figure was even higher at 63%.
According to a 2021 report by the Global Fashion Agenda and McKinsey & Company, repair and reuse of clothing could reduce the fashion industry's carbon emissions by up to 10% by 2030. Also, 77% of UK adults think that clothing retailers should do more to promote sustainable fashion, such as offering repair and alteration services.
