Founded in Switzerland in 1995, Label STEP is a non-profit organisation committed to fair trade and the wellbeing of workers in the handmade carpet and textile industry.
STEP is the only NGO of its kind working in all major handmade rug and carpet producing countries. We collaborate with producers, exporters, retailers, and designers of handmade carpets to apply our industry-leading 10-point Fair Trade Standard. STEP's solutions are holistic—tackling issues at their root with tools tailored to their environment.
These combined efforts aim to improve the lives of weavers, preserve centuries-old artisanal skills, and foster a sustainable handmade carpet industry for the future.
