Lakaz d'Art

Kim Siew, founder, first experience the Mauritian art scene through its involvement in art festivals such as ile courts and Porlwi by Light. After his experience, it became apparent that despite the high number of naturally gifted artists in Mauritius, many found it difficult to become professional artists. A terrible bottleneck for the creative industry. He first created an event around the arts called “Lakaz d’Art” to see how it would be received by locals. This event mixed Art (Exhibition and music) and entertainment (bar and interactive artworks). Although the events themselves were a great success, they were only an ephemeral experience and were not financially viable. So in 2018, he set himself a goal to create a permanent structure. The same year, Lakaz d'Art was created at 45 saint Georges street in Port Louis. Lakaz d'Art now offers a space for creatives to meet, designs and hosts creative workshops, offer design consultancy to firms and hotels, conceptualise events and exhibition, facilitate the online sale of artworks. We work primarily with emerging artists by providing them with an opportunity to show and to sell their work to a wider audience. Our aim is to establish a strong and united creative community and to highlight the importance of the arts in our society.
