At the Los Angeles Maritime Institute (LAMI), we empower local youth to discover their greatest potential through extraordinary at-sea experiences aboard one of our tall ships - educational sailing vessels built to train and equip young people with 21st century leadership skills, and inspire maritime and STEM career paths - out of the Port of Los Angeles. We also have a Long Beach division, the Children's Maritime Institute, that inspires local youth from Pine Ave Pier in Rainbow Harbor. For more than 30 years, young people have had the opportunity to directly benefit from hands-on learning experiences through our programs that use sail training to help them develop team building, problem-solving, critical thinking, self-reliance and leadership skills. We give real-life context to subjects like science, mathematics, engineering, history and literature, and we raise awareness about the environmental impacts to our oceans and local waters through our TopSail Youth and STEM programs, summer camp, bilingual sails, public sails and more. As a non-profit organization, we also empower youth from under-resourced communities thanks to the generous support of our community, and we have volunteer opportunities for both youth and adults!
