Larusmiani is the oldest luxury clothing and tailoring brand on Via Montenapoleone, the heart of Milan’s fashion district and emblem of Italian style. Guglielmo Miani first established his tailoring business in 1922 in Milan. His creativity and determination meant he soon made a name for himself and gained the esteem of artists, men of letters, politicians and businessmen. A key factor in business’s success, in addition to bespoke suits, was the production of raincoats, begun in 1936, the year when English trench coats started to be in vogue. It was the raincoat which inspired the company’s name; the unmistakable logo sewn into every Larusmiani garment – the seagull, larus in Latin - was chosen for its waterproof plumage and the values of freedom and independence it embodies. During the ‘fifties, he began developing trade in textiles in addition to the tailor’s shop. Miani started to import fine fabrics from England, and was the first to import the famous vicuña, the world’s most prized fiber, into Italy. Larusmiani currently produces and distributes more than two million meters of textiles annually around the world, and continues to invest in research and development, practicality and performance, skillfully combining the industrial and tailoring aspects to create fabrics that meet the demands of French and Italian designers. Since 2010, the clothing division’s creative team, overseen by Guglielmo Miani, has opened up to new challenges with the design of a women’s collection to stand alongside its legendary men’s line. The Concept Boutique, opened in 1954 and renovated in 2010 is nothing less than a showcase for the constant pursuit of a style that is always the right balance between classic and modern for limited edition pieces. More than 90 years of experience lives on through the forty Italian master tailors who execute every detail as in days gone by, to give the garment all the hallmarks of strictly handmade in Italy exclusivity and uniqueness.
