Letter from the director: cards on the table. My name is Francisco Rovira, founder of La Voltereta, a book publishing house that identified a problem in the book industry and is determined to solve it. Mode is monopolized. Tone is globalized. Essence is lost. Thriller or horror books on the same topics and by the same authors are published consecutively. Series have ten chapters per season beacuse they are supposed to. Movies have special effects. Songs have the same rhythm, even the ones from alternative music. Boom, cha-boom, cha, boom. I am tired of that. It is boring. At La Voltereta, we pay attention to the author's style to preserve identity in the book industry. We want to season culture with a great variety of flavors for people with a taste for good books. We want to remove the elitist aura from literature, which represents a barrier for many people. "Who in their right mind would force a child to read a book?" - Francisco Rovira at the newspaper "Diario de Almería" in april 2021 (I am quoting myself because I could not have said it better). To finish with, a little bird called "Libro Blanco del Escritor" told me that 77% of Spanish writers earn less than a thousand euros a year from their books' copyright, which gets us to the most worrying figure: only 16.2% of writers live exclusively on literature. Authors are usually offered 9-10% out of the book's prize, which is okay if you have a high volume of sales. However, La Voltereta offers a fair treatment for authors with 50% of profits. How? Taking care of the books distribution in a way that author and reader can get closer. Even though it takes more effort, our work is to help you meet each other. We are a committed book publishing house that is pleased to pay authors. We fend for ourselves and share what we learn. They say that giving brings joy, and that is what we have in mind.
