Layer is a fast-growing Web3 startup that helps developers use off-chain compute for their on-chain apps. We develop a WASI runtime for actively validated services (AVSs), allowing you to build fully decentralized protocols that use offchain state and compute. Our vision is to resurrect the true principles of web3: creating a trust-based, decentralized internet, and combating techno-feudalism. Layer was co-founded by three blockchain pioneers: Jake Hartnell (CEO), who previously co-founded Juno and DAO DAO; Sam Cassatt (CBO), former Chief Strategy Officer at ConsenSys; and Ethan Frey (CTO), founder of CosmWasm and architect of key protocols like IBC for the Cosmos ecosystem. Launched in September 2024, Layer announced a seed fundraising round of $6 million, with a valuation of $72 million, solidifying our position as a leader creating new paradigms in decentralized coordination and development.
