Lions Clubs International is a global service organization founded in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois by Melvin Jones. It has over 1.4 million members in more than 46,000 local clubs across 200 countries and geographic areas. The organisation's motto is "We Serve" and its local clubs engage in a variety of community service projects, including sight conservation, hearing and speech conservation, diabetes awareness, youth outreach, international relations, and environmental issues.
